Sequoia

Sequoia National Park was the first National Park where we had decided to stay overnight. Famous for its mountains and views over valleys and for its Giant Sequoias, the oldest and biggest (not tallest!) trees on earth, it was a beautiful experience.

Our tiny tent which we had bought in Las Vegas at WalMart for stunning 29 Dollars (even better, in Seattle we could sell it for 20 Dollars!) served as our sweet home for all nights in the following two weeks when we weren't in big cities.
In Sequoia we stayed at a campsite in the high mountains (around 2000m above sea level) and it was freezing cold during the nights. Sometimes our sleeping bags (equally bought at the Las Vegas WalMart for 8 Dollars each) were not really warm enough for nights where the temperature dropped to below 45 degrees (around 8 degrees Celsius).


Since it is not so easy to get to Sequoia, it was not totally overcrowed for a weekend and wildlife could be observed easily: Some deer was grazing on a meadow a few meters away, and on one of hour hikes we nearly ran into a bear enjoying sweet berries.



And of course, we had plenty of opportunities to gaze at the astonishing big Giant Sequoias (search for little Nina between two Giant Sequoias on the picture on the right ;-) )
